    Each wheel of Emmi’s gruyere cheese is slowly matured by experienced cheese masters, who carefully turn, brine, and brush the wheels. This process gives gruyere its distinctive flavor and qualities, which make it a great cheese with many applications.

    • Flavor and Fragrance Profile: Distinctive flavor with notes of candied walnuts, dried fruit, and spice
    • Age: 150 Days minimum
    • Suggested Applications: Gruyere is a great melting cheese that is well suited for fondues, hot popcorn with truffle salt, and French onion soup. It can also make a quiche more savory without overwhelming its other ingredients.

    Emmi Roth

    Emmi Roth’s roots date back to 1863, when 20-year-old Oswald Roth, a licensed cheesemaker from Niederbipp, Switzerland, founds O. Roth & Cie, a cheese company specializing in producing and exporting Emmentaler. In 1911 Otto, one of Oswald’s children immigrated to NYC to start Otto Roth & Company, a subsidiary of O. Roth & Cie. that served as an importing agency for Swiss cheeses. The family business success continued, with knowledge and heritage being passed on from one generation to the next. In 1991, when cousins Fermo Jackle and Felix Roth founded Roth Käse USA Ltd, which was eventually purchased by a large Swiss dairy cooperative in 1997. In 2010, Roth Käse USA merged with Emmi AG, leading to the birth of Emmi Roth USA.

    To this day, Emmi Roth is inspired its Swiss heritage, and specializes in Swiss-inspired alpine-style cheeses, Dutch-style Gouda, Havarti and a few of their own American Originals.
